To date, the United States Department of Defense has confirmed more than 4,400 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Additionally, more than 28,000 U.S. soldiers have been wounded in the Global War on Terrorism, of which more than 8,300 were U.S. Marines. While the injuries alone are often traumatic, the financial hardship for both the soldier and his or her family can be extraordinary.
These incredibly brave men and women have made enormous personal sacrifices that allow for us to live our lives in a style, form and fashion that is unmatched anywhere in the world. It is easy to take for granted many aspects of our daily lives, like freedom, personal safety, material belongings, and the right to practice the religion of our choice.
Not withstanding one’s political or partisan perspective, or one’s view on the War in Iraq, there is no debating the enormous personal sacrifice these brave soldiers and their families have made for our Country. Their sacrifice has been great - Ours has been so little.
A group of members at The Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, CA founded an organization based on a premise that we owe these brave soldiers for preserving our way of life.
The 71-member Good Guys of Morgan Run is a non-partisan, a-political, IRS registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since 2005, The Good Guys have organized an annual spring fund raising drive which has resulted in more than $750,000 in donations.
100% of the money donated to The Good Guys is distributed to worthy Marines wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan in the form of individual grants of $5,000 each, 24/7 emergency funds, and gasoline cards. The Good Guys work closely with U.S. Marine Corps Commanding Officers to identify candidates for grants. All expenses of the organization are underwritten and paid for by members of The Good Guys
The entire expense of this event will be generously underwritten and paid for by the Morgan Run Club & Resort and the Good Guys of Morgan Run.
Donations to the Good Guys of Morgan Run are tax deductible under IRS 501(c)(3) rules but, more importantly, by the time you file your taxes next year, you will have made a real difference to several local navy and marine families.
