Frequently Asked Questions

Who Are the Good Guys?
We are a group of about 70 men and women who are members of the Morgan Run Resort and Club. We started eleven years ago to provide financial help for local families in need. In 2005, we wanted to support our troops with more than words, so we dedicated our effort, time and money to help wounded U.S. Marines. In the past four years, we have received more than $1,000,000 in donations, 100% of which has been granted directly to over 200 wounded U.S. service men and women.

What Makes the Good Guys Different From Other Organizations Raising Money for Our Troops?
First, and most important, 100% of all donations go directly to individual marines or sailors wounded in the line of duty. Morgan Run Resort and Club hosts and pays for all Event Day expenses. All other expenses of the organization are paid by individual members of the Good Guys. Second, and equally important, each recipient receives a $5,000 cash grant – No Strings Attached. The size of the grant has a real impact on their lives. This is our thanks for their sacrifice and duty for our Country.

Who Selects the Recipient?
The Navy and the Marine Corps provide us with a list of candidates for grants. Each candidate’s biography is reviewed by the Good Guys Review Board for selection. It is often a difficult process as more than 30,000 soldiers have been wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq and our funds are limited.

Is My Donation Tax Deductible?
Yes, we are a registered non profit 501(c)(3) organization. You will receive a donation receipt from us at year-end with a total of your annual contributions.

What Else Do the Good Guys Do?
We visit the wounded at Balboa Naval Hospital, bringing goodie boxes, and personally host and pay for a series of dinner gatherings at local restaurants for the walking wounded. We also provide gasoline credit cards to help defray travel expenses for families. We have a unique 24/7 program whereby a Marine experiencing dire financial hardship can request (thru their Company Commander) an immediate grant of up to $500. These grants are provided within 24 hours. Other relief organizations typically will require substantial paperwork and will take weeks to provide such funds, and in most cases, reqire repayment.

Are There Less Wounded Now?
No. While thankfully battle injuries have declined, the number of military personnel suffering from debilitating psychological trauma ("PTSD") has dramatically increased. This unpublicized disorder wrakds havoc on their families and their ability to return to a normal life, often resulting in financial hardshop. We are giving special attention to this need.
